Title: Product Line Architecture

Abstract: “Product Line Architectures (PLA) facilitate an approach that promotes reuse by designing core aspects of a family of systems up front that leverage key common system elements.  This provides several advantages including a reduction of development cost for new systems in the family as well as a reduction in the overall development time getting products to market faster.  Just as important as defining and capturing the similarities is identifying and capturing the variation points.  This enables building in adaptability for future variants in the family of systems to benefit from the reuse.  This panel will discuss these and other keys aspects of PLAs, their experiences in implementing PLAs, and future considerations to better leverage the benefits.”

Moderator: Jamie Kanyok , Lockheed Martin, USA
Speakers:   Brian Wells , Raytheon, USA
David Berwald , Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems, USA
Thomas Herald , Lockheed Martin, Global Training and Logistics, USA
Charles Dickerson , Loughborough University, UK

Thursday, March 22, 2012
1:30pm – 3:00pm

Title: Modeling and Simulation

Abstract: As the final panel of the conference, several experts in modeling and simulation will discuss and take questions from the audience that will show that relying on sound systems engineering practices and processes from the beginning concept for a new product, developing the requirements, rapid prototyping to expand those requirements, through its development, integration, testing, operations and support of the product through the life cycle will provide a product that has the capabilities and can perform the missions the customer desires.   Specific areas addressed will be the use of large simulation facilities to look at how a new product could be used along with existing and other new concepts, the tools and databases needed to provide the modeling and simulation capability, a rapid prototyping example for an existing aircraft by operational pilots, the use of a large scale networks to test and validate concepts in an operational scenario, and the use of training simulation to provide the ultimate warfighter .  Also addressed will be the emerging concept of live, virtual and constructive simulation and training.
